SSC CHSL or Staff Selection Commission- Combined Higher Secondary level examination is a huge exam conducted every year by the Government of India. This exam is conducted for students who have cleared class 12 and are looking forward to getting into government jobs. Before getting into government jobs offered through SSC CHSL one should know the eligibility criteria for the exam. The exam was conducted in the year 2016 and the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2018 was as follows:

The eligibility criteria for the exam are divided into various sub-categories and should be fulfilled to appear for the exam:

Permissible relaxation of Upper Age Limit:

09 Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General/Unreserved) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on crucial date. Up to 40 years of age
10 Central Govt. Civilian Employees ( OBC ) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on crucial date. Up to 43 years
11 Central Govt. Civilian Employees ( SC/ST ) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on crucial date. Up to 45 years of age
12 Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir( Unreserved/General ) 5 years
13 Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir( OBC ) 8 years
14 Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir( SC/ST) 10 years
15 Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and who are not remarried ( Unreserved/General ) Up to 35 years of age
16 Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and who are not remarried( OBC ) Up to 38 years of age
17  Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and who are not remarried( SC/ST ) Up to 40 years of age
18 Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof (Unreserved/General ) 5 years
19  Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof (OBC ) 8 (5+3) years
20  Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed  area and released as a consequence thereof (SC/ST) 10 (5+5) years
21 Service Clerks in the last year of their colour service in the Armed Forces ( Unreserved/General ) Up to 45 years of age
22 Service Clerks in the last year of their colour service in the Armed Forces ( OBC ) Up to 48 years of age
23 Service Clerks in the last year of their colour service in the Armed Forces ( SC/ST ) Up to 50 years of age
24 Retrenched census employees of Office of Registrar General of India (Unreserved/General ) (They will be considered only for offices under RGI in their order of merit and subject to availability of vacancies ) 3 years plus length of service rendered by them in connection with
census, before retrenchment , and Weightage of past service.
25 Retrenched census employees of Office of Registrar General of India ( OBC )
( They will be considered only for offices under RGI in their order of merit and subject to availability of vacancies )
 Do + 3 years
26 Retrenched census employees of Office of Registrar General of India ( SC/ST ) ( They will be considered only for offices under RGI in their order of merit and subject to availability of
vacancies )
 Do + 5 years

What is Eligibility Criteria For SSC CHSL

 

  1. Educational Qualification

The first category of SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2018 is about the educational qualification and candidate should fulfill the following requirements:

  • The candidate must be 12th passed or equivalent to it to be eligible for the recruitment.
  • Candidates who are from Open University should be from DE council recognized or should be from IGNOU.
  • Original documents for skill test or typing test should be produced.
  • Candidates who have certificates from recognized boards also fulfill the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2018.
  • A candidate who does not have original certificates does not fulfill the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2018.
  • Candidates of reserve category should produce necessary documents.
  1. Citizenship and nationality

The second important category of SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2016 is nationality and to be eligible for the exam a candidate should be a citizen of:

  • India
  • Nepal
  • Bhutan
  • Tibetan refugees who came to India before January 1st, 1962 and are intended to settle permanently in India.
  • Candidates of Indian origin who migrated to Pakistan, East African Nations, Burma, and Sri Lanka and have returned to India with the intent of settling in India also fulfill the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2016.

Any candidate apart from those who are Indian citizens should have eligibility certificate provided by the government of India and other necessary documents or else the candidature of the applicant will be cancelled. This is because the candidate is not satisfying the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2016.

  1. Age Relaxation in SSC CHSL

Third and last category of SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2017-2018 is the age limit.

  • Candidate belonging to the age of 18-27 years is eligible for the exam.
  • Birth certificate or class 10th passing certificate can be shown as age proof.

Candidates from reserved categories are given age relaxation.

  • SC/ST-32 years,
  • OBC-30years,

Physically Handicapped-37 years, PH+OBC-40years, PH+SC/ST-42years,

  • Ex-serviceman-General-30years,
  • Ex-serviceman+ SC/ST-33years,
  • Ex-serviceman+ OBC-33years,
  • Civilian employees-general-40years,
  • civilian employees-OBC-43years, civilian employees-SC/ST-45years.

The above mentioned three categories are mandatory for every candidate to be eligible for the examination. These categories in SSC CHSL eligibility criteria 2017-2018 if not fulfilled then the candidate cannot appear for the SSC CHSL exam.
